Percy Hynes White, who played Xavier Thorpe in the first season of Netflix's Wednesday, does not appear in the newly released second season. The character is written out, with the show explaining that his parents sent him to a school in Switzerland over safety concerns.
Hynes White was dropped from the series after allegations of sexual misconduct surfaced online in January 2023. The allegations were shared via now-deleted tweets, prompting the actor to issue a denial months later, describing the claims as part of a “campaign of misinformation”.
Netflix has never officially commented on the reasons for his departure. In the new season, fans noted that Xavier is “barely mentioned” in the opening episode, with one viewer remarking that “everyone moves on like he never existed”.
In June 2023, Hynes White took to Instagram to refute the accusations, stating that his family had been doxxed and friends had received death threats. He said: “The rumours are false. I can’t accept the portrayal of me as someone bigoted, or criminally negligent of people’s safety.”
After news of his removal was confirmed, he shared a photo of the season two cast on social media, writing: “I had so much fun working on this show. I can’t wait to watch season two. Much love.”
