Olympic swimmer Adam Peaty and his new wife Holly Ramsay are escaping the controversy that surrounded their wedding by enjoying a luxurious honeymoon in Mauritius. The couple are staying at a five-star resort on a private peninsula, where nightly rates can exceed £6,000. The trip was gifted by Holly's parents, celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay and his wife Tana.
The couple tied the knot at Bath Abbey on December 27, but the celebrations were marred by a family feud. Adam's mother Caroline and brother James were absent due to a disagreement stemming from Caroline being excluded from Holly's hen party. Only his sister Bethany attended the ceremony.
The 10-day trip was delayed because Adam had a prior swimming commitment in Romania. Since arriving, the couple have been spotted on the beach, with Adam taking selfies with locals. Holly shared a glimpse on Instagram, captioning a photo: 'Honeymoon so far featuring palm trees…'
The resort, opened in 1975, has hosted famous guests including Nelson Mandela, Rihanna, and the Prince and Princess of Wales. Villas there have sold for up to £10.1 million, and guests can arrive by helicopter. Holly previously told British Vogue that the honeymoon was a wedding present from her parents, adding: 'I had to tell Adam we weren’t basing our honeymoon around a 25-metre pool…'
During the wedding, Gordon Ramsay was accused of making a pointed remark about Adam's mother in his speech, while Adam reportedly praised his swim coach Mel Marshall as 'like a mum' instead of mentioning his parents. Adam's mother Caroline has said she felt 'cut my heart out' by being uninvited.
