Former Hollyoaks star Paul Danan dies aged 46

Former Hollyoaks actor Paul Danan has died at the age of 46, his management company has confirmed. Independent Creative PR announced the news, describing him as a 'beacon of light' known for his television presence, exceptional talent and unwavering kindness.

Danan played Sol Patrick in the Channel 4 soap from 1997 to 2001. He later appeared on the first series of ITV's Celebrity Love Island and took part in Celebrity Big Brother. In recent years, he ran Morning After Drama, a therapy programme using acting to help people with mental health, addiction and trauma issues.

The actor had been open about his struggles with drug addiction, claiming to have spent around £1m on rehab. He also revealed in June 2024 that he had been revived after respiratory failure caused by excessive vaping, spending a week in intensive care. 'I was dead – it’s a miracle I’m here,' he said at the time.

On the day his death was announced, Danan was due to appear at Warrington Magistrates Court charged with driving while unfit through drugs and possession of cocaine. Tributes have been paid by fellow actors, including former EastEnders star Dean Gaffney, who said: 'You had your demons, but my god you had a heart of gold. RIP Mr Paul Danan.'

Danan leaves behind a 10-year-old son. His management requested privacy for his family, friends and colleagues during this difficult time.
