It has officially been one year since Ozzy Osbourne died on 22 July 2026 at age 76, just two weeks after a final emotional performance with Black Sabbath. The heavy metal icon passed away at his Buckinghamshire estate, surrounded by wife Sharon and their children, after a long battle with Parkinson's disease.
Sources close to the grieving family said that his death was not expected at that moment, but that they were grateful to be back together one last time for the final Black Sabbath show. The Prince of Darkness died at the mansion where Sharon Osbourne, 72, had been preparing for this moment for over two years. Daughters Aimee, 41, and Kelly, 40, had flown in from Los Angeles to be by his side in his final days.
A family friend told the Daily Mail: "Ozzy was always meant to come back to Britain to live in Buckinghamshire, it was where Sharon had spent so long preparing their family home for him." They added: "There was much hope that he would be around for a lot longer than this but at one point there were fears they would not get him back from Los Angeles for the concert earlier this month."
Final Performance and Funeral
Ozzy's final performance was a historic reunion with Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward at Villa Park on 5 July, named Back to the Beginning. The lineup included Metallica, Guns N' Roses, Slayer, Tool, Pantera, Alice in Chains, Mastodon, Anthrax, Halestorm and Lamb of God. His funeral was held in Birmingham, where he grew up.
Before his death, Ozzy had been collaborating with a ghost writer on an autobiography titled Last Rites, which he hoped to see released. The Osbournes purchased their rural retreat in 1993, and planning documents lodged the year before his death disclosed a complete 'rehab wing' was under construction, featuring a wellness studio, art space, spa, orangery, wet room and pool house.
Sharon had brought her husband back from California to ensure his final days were on British soil. The family's statement at his death read: "It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time. Sharon, Jack, Kelly, Aimee and Louis."
