Olly Murs Reveals Sweet Meaning Behind Baby Son's Name

Olly Murs has shared the touching story behind his newborn son's name, Albert, just over a week after announcing the birth. The former X Factor star and his wife Amelia welcomed their second child, a baby boy, joining their daughter Madison, who was born in April 2024.

The 'Dear Darlin'' singer took to Facebook to explain the choice, writing: 'A few people been asking why we chose the name Albert... It's after my great-grandad Edward 'Albert' Murs. Me and Amelia loved the name after I was on BBC's Who Do You Think You Are? and now our little man gets to carry that bit of family history in the future... love you son.'

Olly appeared on the BBC ancestry programme in 2024, where he discovered his family's Latvian roots. During the show, he learned that his great-grandfather Edward Murs had an affair with circus performer Veronika Jankovska, who gave birth to Olly's grandfather Eddie. Veronika later handed Eddie over to her parents and went to work at the circus.

The emotional journey also revealed that during the Nazi occupation of Latvia, Eddie fled as a refugee with his father and stepmother Katrine, while Veronika remained and was later imprisoned in a Soviet work camp, passing away in 1988. Olly and his father Peter were moved to tears when visiting Veronika's grave, with Olly saying: 'It was quite emotional to see dad cry... I think seeing him emotional felt like I'd done something really special for him and the family.'
