Olly Murs has paid an emotional tribute to Caroline Flack on the sixth anniversary of her death. The Love Island presenter died by suicide in 2020 at the age of 40.
On 15 February, Olly posted a photo on social media showing him with his arms around Caroline during downtime from filming The X Factor, which they co-hosted in 2015. He wrote: '6 years and it still feels strange you’re not here. This photo was the first time we met in Birmingham 2011 and after about 5mins in a room we just clicked straight away! We walked out already laughing and giggling together. I miss those moments caz x thinking of ya family today.'
Comedian Leigh Francis also shared a photo of Caroline, writing: 'Bless little Flack. Remember her always laughing x'.
Last year, a two-part Disney documentary, Caroline Flack: Search For The Truth, provided new insight into her final months. Voice notes and texts revealed her emotional turmoil ahead of an assault case. Her mother Christine accused police and prosecutors of pursuing her daughter because of her 'celebrity status'.
Caroline was charged with assaulting her boyfriend Lewis Burton in 2019. Coroner Mary Hassell found that she killed herself because she knew she was being prosecuted and could not face the press coverage. In 2023, the Metropolitan Police apologised to Flack’s family for not keeping a record of why they charged her with assault. The Crown Prosecution Service had recommended a caution, but this was overturned after an appeal from the Met Police.
