Former Migos rapper Offset has been shot and hospitalised following an incident outside a casino in Florida, a tragic event that echoes the fatal shooting of his bandmate Takeoff just three years ago.
The Florida Casino Shooting
A spokesperson confirmed that Offset, whose real name is Kiari Kendrell Cephus, was shot on Monday, April 6, and is currently receiving medical care. The representative stated that the popular musician is stable and being closely monitored by hospital staff. The shooting occurred outside a casino in Florida, though specific details about the circumstances remain under investigation by local law enforcement.
Takeoff's Tragic Death in 2023
This incident follows the heartbreaking loss of Takeoff, another member of the influential hip-hop trio Migos, who was gunned down in 2023 at the age of 28. Takeoff, born Kirshnik Khari Ball, was killed in a shooting at a bowling alley in Houston, Texas, in the early hours of the morning after an argument reportedly broke out over a dice game.
According to reports, a shooter opened fire, resulting in Takeoff's death and injuries to two others who were subsequently taken to hospital. His manager at the time attributed the tragedy to a stray bullet and senseless violence. Takeoff was pronounced dead at the scene, with his real-life uncle and fellow Migos member Quavo by his side.
Memorial Service and Tributes
Takeoff's memorial service was held in November 2022 at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia, his hometown, with a capacity of 21,000 attendees. The emotional event featured a eulogy from Drake and performances by Cardi B and Justin Bieber in honour of the late rapper.
Quavo paid an emotional tribute to his nephew online, writing a lengthy post that highlighted Takeoff's quiet and perceptive personality. He described how Takeoff had always been by his side since childhood, emphasising their strong bond and teamwork within the band.
Migos' Rise to Fame
The band Migos, composed of Quavo, his nephew Takeoff, and their friend Offset, was widely regarded as one of the most influential groups of their generation. They achieved international fame with their 2016 hit single Bad and Boujee, which reached number one in the United States and entered the top 30 in the UK.
Migos later collaborated on Calvin Harris's 2017 song Slide, featuring Frank Ocean, which also reached the UK top 10. Between 2016 and 2018, the group secured a total of four top 10 hits in the United States. Since 2017, the members had been pursuing solo projects while maintaining their collective legacy.
Offset's Personal Life
Offset, who is the father of three children with his ex-wife Cardi B, has been a prominent figure in the music industry. His current condition is being closely watched by fans and the media as details of the Florida shooting continue to emerge.
The similarities between these two shootings involving Migos members have sparked concerns about violence in the entertainment industry, highlighting the ongoing risks faced by public figures. Authorities are investigating the latest incident, while the music community reflects on the lasting impact of Takeoff's untimely death and hopes for Offset's full recovery.
