Gallagher Hill, the infamous vantage point at Heaton Park in Manchester, has been left strewn with rubbish following the Oasis reunion gigs. Clean-up operations began this morning as images revealed the extent of the mess left by fans who gathered to watch the shows from the hill.
Many fans who failed to secure tickets for the sold-out concerts congregated on the hill to catch a glimpse of the stage and screens. However, Manchester City Council erected a fence to block the view, citing the need to protect trees and livestock on the site.
In a gesture of appreciation, Noel and Liam Gallagher arranged for 1,000 exclusive 'Gallagher Hill' t-shirts to be handed out to fans on the hill during the final gig. A fan described how a man on a golf buggy distributed the shirts, saying they were 'from Liam'.
During the final performance, Noel Gallagher dedicated the song 'Bring It On Down' to those on the hill, and screens showed black-and-white footage of the fans. The tribute was widely appreciated by the crowd.
Despite the goodwill, the aftermath saw large amounts of litter covering the area, with workers tasked with clearing the site. Councillor John Hacking had previously urged ticketless fans to enjoy the atmosphere in the city centre instead of gathering on the hill.
