Noel Gallagher's £44,000 Engagement Ring for Ex-Wife Sara MacDonald Set for Belfast Auction
The engagement ring at the heart of Noel Gallagher's marriage to his second wife, Sara MacDonald, is reportedly heading to auction in Belfast. Valued at £44,000, the ring was designed by renowned jeweller Solange Azagury-Partridge and purchased by the Oasis star in 2010.
Rock History Item with Strong Narrative Appeal
According to reports, the ring will be offered at Ross's Auctioneers & Valuers in Belfast, where it is expected to attract significant interest from both jewellery buyers and music enthusiasts. The opening bid is said to be set at £18,000, but auction house representatives anticipate the final price could far exceed this amount given the item's connection to one of Britain's most influential musicians.
A spokeswoman from the auction house told The Sun: "This ring is accompanied with the original receipt from Solange Azagury-Partridge dated 2010, purchased by Noel Gallagher for £44,000. When offered at auction, such a ring attracts not only jewellery buyers but also music enthusiasts and collectors of celebrity-owned pieces."
She continued: "Noel Gallagher's status as the creative force behind Oasis gives any personal object linked to him a strong narrative appeal. Ross's Auctions are thrilled to have the opportunity to auction this one-of-a-kind ring owned by one of Britain's most influential musicians."
Decade-Long Marriage That Ended in 2023
Noel Gallagher, 58, and Sara MacDonald were married in 2011 after becoming engaged in 2010, but their marriage ended in divorce in 2023 after approximately twelve years together. The couple first began their relationship at the beginning of the century and share two sons: Donovan Gallagher, born in 2007, and Sonny Gallagher, born in 2010.
In interviews, Gallagher has suggested that the pandemic placed strain on their relationship, contributing to their eventual separation. He told Ireland's Hot Press magazine: "The silver lining to a very dark cloud being that I actually had some time off during Covid. Although I hated lockdown, I got to finish off all these songs that I'd half-written and write a load of new ones."
Gallagher further explained: "When you get to your mid-fifties, you do come to some kind of crossroads in your life. It's not uncommon for people who have been in long-term relationships to go their separate ways in their fifties. I know a lot of people in the same boat as me and Sara. Particularly after the pandemic."
Second Marriage Ending for Oasis Star
This marked the second marriage to end for the Oasis guitarist and songwriter. His first marriage was to former fashion PR guru Meg Mathews, whom he married in Las Vegas in 1997. That relationship produced daughter Anaïs Gallagher, now 26, before the couple split in 2000 and finalized their divorce the following year.
There were reports at the time that Gallagher had been unfaithful to Mathews with Sara MacDonald, though the musician later insisted he had not cheated on his first wife. The auction of the engagement ring now represents a tangible piece of his second marriage's history becoming available to the public.
The auction house spokesperson added: "Alongside documentation supporting its ownership history, we are certain this ring will attract immense competitive bidding at auction." The Mirror has contacted representatives of both Noel Gallagher and Ross's Auctioneers & Valuers for further comment on the upcoming sale.
