Nicole Kidman has found an unexpected source of support in fellow Australian actor Russell Crowe following her split from Keith Urban after 19 years of marriage. The Oscar-winning actress, 58, was reportedly left 'devastated' and 'betrayed' by the divorce, which was announced in September.
A source reveals that Crowe, 61, who went through his own divorce from Danielle Spencer in 2018, has been in regular contact with Kidman. 'Russell has been through his own heartbreaking divorce after twenty-some years of marriage so he can empathise with Nicole in a way that not everyone in her world can,' the insider said. 'He has a tough exterior but he's a real softie underneath. Ever since Nicole told him what was going on he's been on the phone to her nearly every day just to check in and lift her spirits. They even managed to meet up for coffee not that long ago.'
Crowe, who described Kidman in 2019 as 'one of my favourite people in the universe', has been offering pep talks to boost her confidence. 'Russell is always telling her what a catch she is and what a fool Keith is for letting her go,' the source added. 'No doubt it's good for her confidence and she really needs a boost right now.' The friendship, which dates back decades, includes co-starring in the 2018 film Boy Erased and serving as President and Vice President of the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television respectively.
Despite Crowe's past comments about becoming a 'f***ing sl**' after his divorce, the source insists the relationship is strictly platonic. 'They're strictly friends, there's nothing going on,' they said. Meanwhile, Kidman has been seen at Paris Fashion Week in a revenge look, but her heartbreak was evident. Urban, 58, has admitted to feeling 'lonely' and 'miserable' while on tour, amid rumours of a romance with his support act, which she has denied.
