Nicole Kidman has filed for divorce from Keith Urban after 19 years of marriage, according to court documents filed in Nashville. The 58-year-old Oscar-winning actor petitioned on Tuesday, citing 'marital difficulties and irreconcilable differences'. The couple, both Australian superstars in film and music, have two daughters aged 17 and 14.
The divorce filing includes a detailed parenting plan agreed by both parties, with Kidman to be the primary residential parent, having the children for 306 days per year and Urban for 59 days. The plan emphasises maintaining a loving environment and forbids speaking ill of each other. The couple have lived in Nashville for years and the documents indicate no intention to move.
The filing states each parent earns more than $100,000 per month, and neither will seek spousal or child support. Assets are to be divided roughly equally, with each retaining their own intellectual property and royalties. Urban signed the parenting plan on 29 August, Kidman on 6 September, suggesting the divorce had been in preparation for some time.
Kidman and Urban met in 2005 at an event for Australians in Los Angeles and married in Sydney the following year. This is Kidman's second marriage, after her divorce from Tom Cruise in 2001. Urban previously entered rehab for substance abuse four months into their marriage, with Kidman supporting him throughout. Despite public declarations of love, the couple have now decided to separate.
