Nick Stapleton 'Incredibly Blessed' by Parents' Legacy

BBC consumer expert Nick Stapleton has spoken about being 'incredibly blessed' to have had his 'remarkable' famous parents, John Stapleton and Lynn Faulds Wood, who continue to inspire his work. The son of the legendary broadcasters is a familiar face on BBC shows including Morning Live, The One Show and Scam Interceptors.

Following in Famous Footsteps

Stapleton, an investigative journalist, works relentlessly to uncover scams and fraud, just as his parents did before him. John and Lynn were two of the nation's best-loved presenters, working together on BBC's Watchdog and renowned for their campaigning work. In May 2026, it was announced that Stapleton had joined the latest Watchdog team alongside Amber Haque, regular hosts Matt Allwright and Nikki Fox. Watchdog is now incorporated within The One Show.

Poignant Appointment

When the appointment was announced, just months after his father's death, Stapleton admitted there was a 'real poignancy' in joining the team. 'Uncovering scams and fighting for consumer fairness is in my blood. I grew up watching my mum doorstepping people and holding them to account, and it lit a fire in me,' he said. He added: 'My parents aren't around any more, so there is a real poignancy in joining Watchdog, a programme that was such a huge part of our lives. I truly believe in public service broadcasting and it's a privilege to join Matt, Nikki and Amber to continue that legacy.'

Loss of Parents

Lynn passed away in 2020 at the age of 72 following a stroke, while John, whose credits also included Nationwide, Panorama, Breakfast Time and GMTV, died in September 2025 after a diagnosis with Parkinson's disease. At the time of John's death, Stapleton posted a throwback photograph of himself as a child with his father on Instagram with a beautiful tribute to both parents. 'I'm incredibly blessed to have had two pretty remarkable parents. Amazing people who in amongst all they achieved somehow also found the time to do a decent job raising me. Losing them both comparatively young is very hard to take,' he wrote.

Father's Legacy

Stapleton admitted John had 'loved being a broadcaster' and 'more than anyone he loved my mum.' He said: 'Losing her broke him for a long time, although he managed to find his own way and lived a full life without her. He loved his friends, socialising, dinner parties and mostly, wine. He was just a very loving, unbelievably generous man. You won't meet anyone with a bad word to say about him. And you can't do much better than that.' Morning Live and The One Show air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
