Newcastle United fans in America headed to New York City's dedicated Geordie pub, Peter Dillon's, to pay their own tribute to Kevin Keegan following his death at age 75 after a battle with cancer. The former Newcastle United player and manager died on Monday, July 21, 2026, surrounded by his wife and daughters.
Family Statement Confirms Death
Shortly before 3pm on Monday, Kevin's passing was confirmed in a statement from his family: "It is with immense sadness that we announce that Kevin Keegan has passed away at the age of 75. Kevin had been battling cancer and was surrounded by his wife and daughters in his final moments. A double Ballon D’or winner, Kevin was a much loved husband, father and grandfather. The family would like to thank Kevin’s incredible medical team for all their support. This is a hugely difficult time and they are requesting space and privacy."
Tributes Pour In at St James' Park
Within an hour of the news breaking, fans began to head to St James' Park to leave floral tributes, honoring the man who gave the club some of its most treasured memories. Former players from the Entertainers era, including Alan Shearer and Tino Asprilla, were quick to pay tribute.
New York City Tribute
Kevin was also honored thousands of miles away in NYC, with United supporters heading to Peter Dillon's pub in Midtown Manhattan. On Monday night, the bar shared a photo on its Instagram story from a member of the NYC Toon Army. The photo showed a pint with the number 7 stencilled on the top, in honor of the number 7 Keegan proudly wore on his shirt while playing for Newcastle.
Peter Dillon's, a pub adorned with NUFC memorabilia, was the same bar that ex-NUFC striker Alan Shearer visited after England's World Cup exit last week and where Sam Fender had a night out with Lewis Capaldi a few months ago.
