Netflix has released a new six-part police drama series, Elite Force, which is being described as so tense it could be too much for some viewers. All episodes were added to the streaming platform on July 22.
About the Series
The series focuses on France's top-tier police unit, GIGN (Groupe d'intervention de la Gendarmerie nationale), who handle high-stakes missions including counterterrorism, hostage rescue, and protecting government VIPs. After an unprecedented attack on his unit, a high-ranking officer set to leave the field leads a perilous mission that forces him to confront his past.
The show is produced by French filmmaker Julien Leclercq, known for Netflix's Ganglands and the heist movie The Crew. The real GIGN provided operational support to the production, sharing procedures, training, and equipment usually kept secret.

While the series does not yet have enough reviews for a Rotten Tomatoes score, early viewers have praised Leclercq's writing and direction. One critic noted: "What begins as a tense, precise immersion into an elite intervention unit soon morphs into an action thriller with shades of 24 and other cult thrillers." Another added: "Elite Force is, first and foremost, another showcase for the bona fide talents of Julien Leclercq as an expert action director."
Reviewers have also highlighted the show's grounded grittiness, with one saying: "The series inherits both the authority of that gaze and its discomfort, and the tension is legible in the filmmaking." Another suggested the series' "restraint makes the action more tense, not less."
