TV panellist Narinder Kaur is facing criticism for standing in solidarity with actress Jameela Jamil, who recently caused controversy by describing British people as the "most evil in history" on a podcast.
The London-born former BBC Radio 1 presenter made the remarks on the podcast Yestergays to hosts Justin Sylvester and Blakely Thornton. She also took time to reflect on her role as Tahani Al-Jamil in the NBC comedy The Good Place.
Jameela Jamil's comments on British people
Discussing how she shaped the character, Ms Jamil said: "Americans think British people are so sweet, which is so crazy because British people are truly the most evil people in history. They are Thanos. Britain is Thanos. They owe 43 trillion to India. We colonise the world."
She was also asked about her experience of relocating from London to Los Angeles, to which she said: "Literally a race war is happening. We kind of started it, Brexit. Brexit paved the way for American chaos."
Social media backlash
The comments have left social media users divided, with one person calling Jameela to "renounce your British citizenship" and instead "sponsor a well-deserving individual from India who truly wants to be here".
Narinder shared a snippet of the podcast on social media platform X and criticised the haters, saying: "They've all gone crazy because a brown British woman - Jameela Jamil - dared to say in her opinion. Her opinion is based on history. Why you all mad and telling her to go back to India?"
However she was slammed for supporting Jameela, as one said: "So are you evil too Narinder? Are you British? If you are, you are evil. Why do people want to come and live with us, when we are so evil and racist? What is it that makes them come?"
Narinder also hit back and clarified: "She is talking about a moment in history. It's her opinion and fact! 4 to 10 million starved to death, is that evil?"
