BBC Breakfast host Naga Munchetty sparked backlash from viewers during Thursday's show after a tense interview with Chief Secretary to the Treasury Emma Reynolds.
The newly appointed minister appeared on the programme (July 23) to discuss the government's announcement that pubs, clubs and music venues in England would receive a 20% cut in business rates from April.

During the conversation, it became clear the MP was unhappy with Naga not allowing her to answer questions. After noting that restaurants, hotels and cafes would not receive the same 'breathing room' as sectors with the 20% cut, Naga asked: "Your announcements, the cuts you're making, those announcements come in in the next tax year. So, why are you not offering some breathing room, or at least less stress to those other in the sector?"
Emma Reynolds began to answer but was cut off by Naga, who said: "As I've said, we will look at this in the round for the Autumn budget, but obviously any announcement. Can I just-" Naga interrupted, adding: "No, because you're not really answering the question."
The MP spoke over the BBC star saying: "I'm about to answer your question, only if you'd let me speak." Naga assured her there would be an opportunity to continue, but reiterated her point about no relief for other businesses.
Mixed reactions on social media
Viewers quickly commented on the interview. On X, one person said: "Naga was awful. She kept interrupting. Why ask a question when you won't let her answer?" Another shared: "She always has to go too far."
However, some praised Naga's assertive questioning. One viewer said: "#BBCBreakfast spot on Naga, the previous relief wasn't enough if the whole point is they are still closing down.." Another added: "Think? She's wiping the floor with her." As one person wrote: "Go Naga #bbcbreakfast."
