Catherine Harding, the mother of an 11-year-old girl who was left in tears after being confronted by a man claiming to be part of Chappell Roan’s security team, has broken her silence. The incident took place during breakfast at a hotel in São Paulo, Brazil, where the family were staying.
According to Mrs Harding, her daughter spotted the singer from the breakfast area and went outside to look, smiling without taking any photos or approaching. The child returned unsure if it was Roan. Moments later, a large security guard approached their table and berated them, accusing the girl of harassment and telling the mother she should 'teach her daughter to be better'.
Mrs Harding said the guard was not hotel staff but was accompanying the artist, though she is unsure if Roan sent him. 'Did she send him to do it? I don’t know. I would like to hope not,' she said. 'But I think a celebrity has a responsibility to ensure those working for them act appropriately.'
The singer had previously stated the guard was not her security. Mrs Harding expressed hope that Roan would recognise the behaviour was unacceptable.
