Mary Kate Golding, the set decorator for hit shows including The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Goosebumps and Mr. and Mrs. Smith, has died at age 34 after being fatally stabbed in her New York home.
Police discovered Golding with a stab wound to her back after responding to a 911 call reporting an assault at her apartment in Astoria, Queens, shortly after midnight on Tuesday. Emergency responders pronounced her dead at the scene.
Police Statement on the Incident
In a statement, the NYPD said: “On Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at approximately 0024 hours, police responded to a 911 call of an assault inside of 18-64 41 Street, within the confines of the 114 Precinct. Upon arrival, officers observed a 34-year-old female victim with a stab wound to the back. EMS responded and pronounced the victim deceased on the scene.”
Hours later, police were called to nearby Astoria Park, where an unconscious man was found. The NYPD said officers responded at approximately 6.39am and discovered an unidentified man, believed to be aged between 30 and 35, unresponsive inside the park. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Suspected Murder-Suicide
Multiple US media outlets have identified the man as Golding’s husband, Joseph Azzaretto, reporting that he died by hanging and that investigators are treating the deaths as a suspected murder-suicide.
