Mrs Brown's Boys Christmas and New Year's specials have been scrapped after star and writer Brendan O'Carroll suffered an 'unexpected medical issue'. The 70-year-old underwent immediate surgery following a CT scan that revealed two fractures in his mandible (jaw), which requires a few months of recovery.
Statement from Brendan O'Carroll
In a statement, O'Carroll said: "Following a CT Scan, it was found that I had two fractures in my mandible (jaw) which requires immediate surgery and a few months recovery." He added that he is talking with the BBC about bringing the show back in 2027.
O'Carroll also confirmed that the 3 Arena Dublin and INEC Killarney shows, "Mrs. Brown's Boys D'Panto?", scheduled for later this year, will be postponed. He said they are working with MCD to reschedule the shows for 2027.
Apology to fans and future plans
He expressed his gratitude to MCD and the BBC for their support and understanding, and said the decision was made on medical advice from his consultant. "To say I am heartbroken is an absolute understatement," he said, apologising to fans for any disappointment caused.
O'Carroll concluded: "I now need to focus on getting myself back to full health, and I genuinely cannot wait to see you all again in 2027. Our fans mean the world to us, thank you from the bottom of my heart for your love and support and trust me Agnes Brown and her family will be back!"
