Morgan Wallen sentenced to seven days for chair-throwing incident

Country music star Morgan Wallen has pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor counts of reckless endangerment for throwing a chair from the rooftop of a six-story bar in Nashville, nearly hitting two police officers. The incident occurred on 7 April at Chief's bar.

Wallen appeared in court on Thursday alongside his attorney, Worrick Robinson, and was sentenced to seven days in a DUI education centre and two years of supervised probation. The plea was 'conditionally guilty', meaning the charges could be dismissed and expunged upon successful completion of probation.

According to the arrest affidavit, witnesses told officers they saw Wallen pick up a chair, throw it off the roof and laugh about it. The chair landed about a yard from the officers. Wallen was initially charged with three felony counts of reckless endangerment and one misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct.

In a statement after the incident, Wallen said he accepted responsibility and was 'not proud' of his behaviour, though he did not apologise. His attorney later stated that Wallen had cooperated fully with authorities and apologised to all involved. After the brief 10-minute hearing, Wallen was escorted out by security guards without making a statement.

Wallen, named the Country Music Association awards' entertainer of the year last month, has a history of legal issues, including a 2021 suspension for using a racial slur and a 2020 arrest for public intoxication and disorderly conduct.
