Monty Don's emotional tribute to his dogs left fans devastated, with many fearing for the wellbeing of his dog Patti.
The Gardeners' World presenter shared an emotional picture of his dogs Patti and Ned's names engraved on stone, captioned: "In the threshold of the Doghouse."
Fans fear the worst
The tribute sparked concern among followers, who rushed to comment on Facebook and Instagram. One wrote: "So sorry you've lost your little shadow," while another said: "Patti died? I did not realise this I'm so sorry."
A third asked: "Did Patti pass away?" as a fourth wrote: "I did not know Patti had died." One heartbroken fan simply asked: "Patti?" adding a tear emoji.
Followers clarify
Other fans of the BBC presenter were quick to correct the misunderstanding, pointing out that both Ned and Patti are alive and well.
One commented: "Guys it's his dog's names in the dog house. They didn't die!!" A second queried: "Why is everyone saying Patti died?"
Another urged: "I think you need to post a clarification as there are a lot of upset people commenting here!" Others asked Monty to show a picture of the names of all his beloved dogs as a tribute.
Previous losses
The post comes after the sad loss of Monty's dog Peggy, a Brittany Spaniel, who passed away in January this year. She was a few weeks short of her 16th birthday.
Monty wrote at the time: "Peggy died yesterday. She was an old lady - a few weeks short of her 16th birthday- and went as she had lived, gently and without fuss. She was eccentric, quirky, infinitely gentle and loving and will be missed terribly. She is now buried in the coppice alongside Nigel and Nell and the other dogs."
The TV star has also lost dogs Nigel in 2020 and Nell in 2023, with fans sharing their condolences at the time.
