Director Tim Burton, 67, and actress Monica Bellucci, 60, have ended their two-year relationship. The couple announced their split in a joint statement to AFP on Friday, September 19, expressing mutual respect and care for each other.
The pair first met briefly at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival but reconnected 16 years later at the Lumière Festival. They went public with their romance in October 2023 at the Rome Film Festival. Burton later cast Bellucci in his 2024 film Beetlejuice Beetlejuice as Delores, a soul-absorbing death cult leader.
Both have previous long-term relationships. Burton was with Helena Bonham Carter for 14 years, with whom he has two children, while Bellucci was married to French actor Vincent Cassel for 14 years, also having two daughters.
In June 2023, Bellucci told Elle France she connected with the themes in Burton's work, describing his films as a dream world where monsters are kind. The couple attended the Globo d'Oro Awards in Rome in July 2024, where Bellucci received a lifetime achievement award.
