Love Island star Molly-Mae Hague has revealed she turned down a £2 million deal to become the face of a high street fashion brand because she does not shop there. The 22-year-old, who shot to fame on the 2019 series of the ITV show, discussed the decision in a YouTube video with her manager Francesca Britton.
Britton explained that a high street brand approached them last year with a lucrative offer, but Hague declined. 'I said to her, 'How do you feel about that?' She said no. I said: 'Why? You told me you want that house.' She said, 'No I don't buy my clothes from there,' Britton recounted.
Hague, who is currently an ambassador for online fast fashion brand PrettyLittleThing, added: 'Even when I came out of Love Island and that day when we sat with all those fashion brands, the money offer that I took wasn't actually the highest.' Her partnership with PrettyLittleThing has been controversial, as the brand's parent company Boohoo Group faced allegations of poor working conditions in its factories.
Despite the backlash, Hague has continued to work with PrettyLittleThing, reportedly earning £500,000 initially and a further £600,000 the following year. She has defended her choice, saying she is 'blessed' to work with a brand that believes in her.
