Molly Mae Hague has revealed she has stopped breastfeeding her newborn son Midas after three weeks, explaining that she wanted to end the experience on a positive note before it became a source of resentment. The former Love Island star, 27, shared the update in a new YouTube video about her motherhood journey.
Decision to Stop Breastfeeding
In the video, Molly Mae said: "Update on the breastfeeding is that I have actually stopped breastfeeding now. I’m still pumping because my boobs still need to release because it doesn’t just stop overnight. But I actually just wanted to stop on a high and not get to a point where I resent it and just enjoy it." She added that this was always her plan: "I always said I want to leave it on a high. I want to remember these few weeks breastfeeding Midas as a really nice positive thing, which it has been."
Molly Mae gave birth to her second child in early June, and her partner Tommy Fury later announced the baby's name, Midas, which was embroidered onto his boxing shorts for a televised fight.
Feeding Challenges
She explained that, similar to her experience with her first child Bambi, Midas's feeds were taking at minimum over an hour, which she began to struggle with. According to the breastfeeding network, newborn babies should take between 15 to 45 minutes per session, or 10 to 20 minutes per breast, and should be fed 8 to 12 times in 24 hours.
"I kinda got to a point where I was like, ‘Ooh, I’m not really enjoying this that much anymore.’ Which, listen, it’s not always meant to be always enjoyable the breastfeeding, like you do it for them," she said. "But I'm really happy with what I did. It's more than I thought I'd be able to to be honest."
Transition to Bottle Feeding
Molly Mae now feeds Midas breast milk via a bottle, mixed with a little formula. She described the transition as going "really really well" and said she feels good about it. She also noted that she is trying not to overthink the decision to avoid guilt: "I’m trying not to think about it too much in my head because if I think about it too much I will end up feeling guilty and feeling sad and bad about it."
She added that she is happy she managed two and a half weeks of exclusive breastfeeding, which exceeded her expectations: "I literally thought I would do, like, a day and then be like, ‘Yeah, no. This isn’t good for me or my mental health,’ so I’m really happy that I felt good doing it."
Personal Preferences and Fan Support
Molly Mae also mentioned being excited to wear perfume again and being cautious about shower gel and moisturiser to avoid irritating her babies. She appealed to fans for advice on having skin tags removed, which she developed during her pregnancy with Bambi, noting they appeared on her neck and crotch.
Fans quickly supported her decision. One commenter wrote: "Molly never feel worried about what other people think about breast feeding, you’ve done amazing to get as far as you have, you know what’s best for you and your family." Another said: "A fed baby is a happy baby that's all that matters. I managed 3 weeks and about 2 weeks too xxx." A third added: "You don’t need to justify anything to anyone... You do what works best for you and your family!"
