Modern Family star Sofia Vergara has admitted that the cast of the long-running sitcom were 'so upset' when the show came to an end, expressing her wish to do it all over again. The ABC mockumentary followed the Pritchett-Dunphy family for 11 seasons before its series finale aired in the US this month.
Vergara, who played Gloria Delgado-Pritchett, told Australia's Daily Telegraph that finishing work on the show was very difficult. 'Why can't it be Law & Order?' she said. 'It was the dream job and if I could do it all again I would and I wouldn't change anything. Everything was perfect – the scripts, the cast, the writers... We became a family so it's hard to say goodbye.'
Speaking about the end of filming, Vergara added: 'It was bad. We were so upset – all of us. We are really going to miss each other. It's not about the work, it's the people. I'm never going to see them every day like I did. You lose contact in this business. I'm going to miss them. I already miss them!'
The series finale saw the family go their separate ways, with Alex embarking on a research trip to Switzerland, Luke heading to college, and Haley, Dylan and their twins moving into their own home. Jay, Gloria and Joe prepared to visit Colombia, while Manny set off travelling with his biological dad. Cam, Mitch and Lily became a family of four after adopting baby Rex and moving to Missouri for Cam's dream role.
Actress Sarah Hyland, who played Haley, admitted she would have liked her character's story to end differently, wishing viewers had seen her 'own her badassery in the fashion world' more. Modern Family aired on ABC in the US, and on Sky One and NOW TV in the UK.
