Mo Gilligan has become a household name through his comedy career, but his roots include holidays in Cardiff and a Welsh mother. The 38-year-old, originally from Lambeth, London, started posting comedy clips on social media while working at a Levi's store. His observational humor, imitating groups of girls, annoying siblings, or odd uncles, quickly gained popularity, with fans visiting the store to meet him.
Rise to Fame
In 2017, Mo's fortunes changed when rapper Drake discovered his parody video 'Cockney guys when they see a bit of sun'. Adopting a cockney accent, Mo exclaimed, 'F****** hell, it's a bit hot. Jesus f****** Christ, it's like Jamaica. Julie, get a coupla cans in! Get a coupla cans, love.' Drake shared the clip, propelling Mo into the spotlight. He soon sold out his debut UK tour in just two minutes, co-hosted Channel 4's The Big Narstie Show, and fronted his own show, The Lateish Show with Mo Gilligan. He also appears as a panellist on ITV's The Masked Singer, has hosted the BRIT Awards, and features on Celebrity Gogglebox with friend Babatunde Aleshe.
Welsh Heritage
Mo has openly discussed his Welsh heritage. His mother was born in Barry, and his grandfather is Jamaican. He has family in Cardiff and Grangetown, and spent school holidays in Cadoxton with cousins, aunties, and uncles. He supported the Welsh football team during the 2016 Euros.
Relationships and Family
Mo was romantically involved with actress Sophie Wise from 2018 until their amicable separation in 2022. Wise is known for her role as Carly Bradley in Hollyoaks and appearances in Holby City and Doctors. The split was reportedly due to Mo's professional commitments, but they remain friends. In 2024, Mo became a father for the first time when his ex-partner, Selina Christoforou, gave birth to their son, Rudi. Currently, Mo is engaged to model Taia Tulher, 28, and the couple welcomed a newborn in summer 2025. Taia, a London-based model, has worked with brands like Chanel on campaigns such as Chanel Noir et blanc and Chanel Haute Couture in 2025.
