Miley Cyrus credits gardening for maintaining five years of sobriety

Miley Cyrus has revealed that gardening has played a key role in maintaining her sobriety for the past five years. The singer, who gave up marijuana and alcohol, said nurturing plants has become a 'medicine' that keeps her grounded.

Speaking to Pamela Anderson for CR Fashion Book, the 'Flowers' singer explained that gardening provides a simple, personal activity away from fame. 'Putting a seed in the ground and nurturing it becomes a very personal process,' she said. 'That has been the medicine that's kept me grounded in my sober lifestyle.'

Cyrus described gardening as akin to yoga, offering a creative outlet not tied to success. She recalled throwing seeds on a hillside before a tour and returning to find it transformed into a 'princess fairy garden.' She noted that staying home during the pandemic allowed her to appreciate nature in a different way.

In earlier interviews, Cyrus said she 'needed to fall one more time' during the 2020 lockdown before quitting drinking for good. She admitted that period led to some of her 'not best moments' but ultimately helped her write the song 'Flowers,' which she described as 'some sort of key right into the lock of all healing.'
