Miles Owen Takes Over as Dad Clive Slows Down

Miles Owen, the teenage star of Channel 5's Our Yorkshire Farm, has admitted he is taking on a bigger role at Ravenseat Farm as his father Clive "slows down." In a candid moment during a repeat episode of Reuben Owen: Life in the Dales, Miles spoke about how the family dynamic has shifted, with him now shouldering more of the daily workload.

Miles Steps Up at Ravenseat

Miles, who grew up on the farm, told the camera: "I really enjoy growing up on the farm. One of my jobs was doing chickens, collecting the eggs, looking after them, feeding them. I'm doing more work with the cows and sheep at the moment." The shift comes as Clive, the patriarch, gradually pulls back from the demanding routine of running the rugged Yorkshire Dales smallholding.

Balancing Family and Opportunity

Miles's situation is complicated by his older brother Reuben's thriving groundworks and plant hire business. Miles expressed eagerness to get involved in the "digging side" of that work. However, he acknowledged that Ravenseat must come first. "I've got to balance it because you know, Dad's getting on and he's slowing down a bit," Miles explained. "So yeah, I've got to help Dad when it's needed, and can't leave him to manage, and then when Reuben needs it, and he gets stuck, so I need to help him, so it's about finding balance."

Clive's Perspective on the Future

Clive himself has spoken openly about aging, recently telling Channel 4's Our Farm Next Door that he is ready to "pass on the baton" to the next generation. The family is currently tackling the ambitious redevelopment of Anty John's, a project that has tested them at every turn. Miles's increased role is seen as a natural progression as Clive steps back.

Reuben Owen: Life in the Dales continues on Channel 5 on Tuesday with a repeat episode.
