Michaella McCollum, known from the Peru Two drug smuggling case over a decade ago, is set to reveal her ordeal on the latest series of Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins. The 31-year-old from Dungannon, Northern Ireland, will appear as recruit number three on the Channel 4 show, which airs on Sunday.
In 2013, McCollum and Melissa Reid were arrested at Lima airport while attempting to smuggle 11kg of cocaine worth £1.5 million. They had concealed the drugs in sachets of porridge and jelly. McCollum was sentenced to six years and eight months in prison, serving time at the notorious Ancon 2 jail.
Speaking on Good Morning Britain earlier this year, McCollum confessed she was under the influence of drugs and alcohol when she agreed to become a drug mule. She explained how she was manipulated by a group in Ibiza who targeted her vulnerabilities as a young, naive teenager.
During her imprisonment, McCollum took courses in beauty therapy and hairdressing, and taught herself Spanish in under a year. She was granted parole on March 31, 2016, on condition she remained in Peru, but returned to the UK that April.
Now, viewers will see McCollum face the gruelling SAS challenges alongside other celebrities. One of her first tasks was labelled an 'epic fail' by the show's commanders.
