Michael Sheen, the Welsh actor known for roles in Good Omens, Quiz, Frost/Nixon, and The Queen, has returned to screens as a contestant on Celebrity Traitors. Alongside his 30-year career, his personal life—particularly his relationships with prominent women—has drawn public interest.
First Notable Romance with Kate Beckinsale
Sheen's first high-profile relationship was with actress Kate Beckinsale. The couple began dating in 1995 after meeting in a stage production of The Seagull and welcomed their daughter, Lily Mo Sheen, in 1999. They later appeared together in the 2002 film Underworld, directed by Len Wiseman, before parting ways in 2003 following their move from London to Los Angeles.
Beckinsale later married Wiseman in 2004; they separated in 2019. She has stated there was no crossover between her relationships with Sheen and Wiseman, and the two remain friends. Sheen discussed the split on the podcast Changes With Annie Macmanus, describing it as "difficult" and explaining the challenges of living apart from his daughter.
Speaking to E Magazine in 2016, Beckinsale said: "It's so normal for us. We split up ages ago. We have not been together for far longer than we were ever together. But I really love him and like him and we make each other roar with laughter."
Romance with Rachel McAdams and Sarah Silverman
In 2011, Sheen began dating Rachel McAdams, star of Mean Girls and The Notebook. They met while working on Midnight in Paris, though their romance began after production ended. The couple split in 2013 due to "different visions for the future."
Sheen then entered a relationship with comedian Sarah Silverman in 2014, after meeting on Masters of Sex. The relationship lasted four years, ending in December 2017. Silverman later said they "broke up over Christmas," citing the distance between them. Sheen attributed part of the split to Brexit and the political climate, saying both felt drawn to act on their drives, which pulled them in different directions.
Current Partner Anna Lundberg
Since 2019, Sheen has been with partner Anna Lundberg, an actress known for stage work and voicing Marion in The Sandman. The couple have two children, Lyra and Mabli, and live in Sheen's hometown of Port Talbot. Their 25-year age gap has drawn scrutiny; Sheen addressed it on BBC's The Assembly, saying: "Because of the age difference, I think both of us were quite surprised when we got together. I don't think either of us were looking for that."
He added: "Because of the age difference, I'm aware that I'm a much older father. It does worry me, it makes me concerned. It makes me sad thinking about the time I won't have with them. But ultimately, I think if you find someone who brings you happiness and you make them happy, you've got to go for that."
Celebrity Traitors airs on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
