Mel C shares honest thoughts on Victoria Beckham missing her wedding
Mel C on Victoria Beckham missing her wedding

Melanie C has opened up about Victoria Beckham missing her wedding earlier this month. The Sporty Spice married Australian model and actor Chris Dingwall in an intimate ceremony in the Lake District on July 18, with Emma Bunton, Geri Halliwell and Melanie Brown all present. Victoria was absent as she was committed to watching the World Cup final between Spain and Argentina in New York with her husband, Sir David Beckham.

Victoria designed Melanie's wedding dress

Despite missing the nuptials, Victoria was not completely absent from the event — she designed Melanie's wedding gown, a backless satin and lace creation. Speaking to Closer, the newlywed said: "She's amazing, we're so proud of everything she's achieved beyond being a Spice Girl."

Spice Girls reunion hopes

Melanie also addressed the possibility of a Spice Girls reunion, noting that the band is "constantly talking." She said: "I think one song isn't enough, I wouldn't be satisfied with that. We're constantly talking. Making the (Wannabe) anniversary, we could see the fans posting across social media and it's like, 'you don't need to convince me, I'm here, I'm ready, I'm waiting'."

The Spice Girls last reunited for a 13-date UK tour in 2019, again without Victoria. Their debut single 'Wannabe' became a defining track of the 1990s, selling more than eight million copies worldwide and launching their Girl Power agenda. Of their 10 singles released before splitting in December 2000, all but one reached number one in the UK charts — 'Stop' peaked at number two.

Melanie previously said the 30th anniversary of 'Wannabe' was "a very emotional day." Speaking at the Nordoff and Robbins Silver Clef Awards at the Royal Albert Hall, where she received the global impact award, she reflected: "We knew exactly what we wanted to achieve but nobody imagined the scale (of what) we went on to do. We went out, we conquered the world. We were told that we couldn't, and we wouldn't. But we did."

Victoria's last performance with the group

Victoria last performed with the Spice Girls at the 2012 Olympics Closing Ceremony in London. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Melanie said: "I think it was too much for her (Victoria). It was, like, she was so nervous, going out there. She was like, 'you know what girls? I think that's me done.' And you know what? It's an amazing place to bow out because it was huge."
