A video of Meghan Markle scooting down a hillside has gone viral on social media after Princess Catherine announced her completion of the Three Peaks Challenge. The Princess of Wales trekked 23 miles over the weekend, climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Snowdon in less than 24 hours to raise funds for the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.
Princess Catherine's Record-Breaking Trek
Catherine undertook the challenge on her own, with support from Mountain Rescue along the way. Her achievement was shared on social media, drawing congratulations from fans worldwide. Kensington Palace stated they believe the expedition was a royal first, with the princess being the first member of the Royal Family to complete the Three Peaks. The monarchy’s official social media account posted: “Congratulations to The Princess of Wales.”
On Sunday, the princess was welcomed at the finish by the Prince of Wales, their children – Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis – as well as her parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, and her brother, James Middleton.
Meghan's Resurfaced Video Sparks Comparisons
Following Catherine's announcement, royal fans reshared an old video of Meghan Markle during a hiking trip with Prince Harry. The clip, featured in the Sussexes' Netflix docuseries, shows Meghan struggling to climb down a hillside, sliding on her bottom and using her hands for support. Prince Harry can be heard saying: “She’s happy to go up the hill, but hates going down the hill.” Meghan replies: “We don’t have that much far to go,” before Harry shows the distance down the trail.
Fans drew comparisons between the two royals. One user on X wrote: “Thank goodness she never attempted the National 3 peak climb with Princess Catherine…she’d still be there.” Another said: “I once did this same butt crawl down a high hill in a National Park. The difference: I didnt post my weakness online thinking it made me adorable.” A third commented: “I have never seen anything like this in my life.” A fourth added: “That’s a very easy hill to go down. You step down sideways and follow what looks like a path with good spots to steady your steps. She’s ridiculous.”
Defenders Speak Up for Meghan
Some users defended the duchess. One wrote: “Can you not praise the Princess of Wales without trying to degrade and belittle the Duchess of Sussex at the same time? Good grief, Catherine’s achievement should be applauded on its own merit. Insulting Meghan at the same time is not the flex you think it is.” Another added: “Just stop the denigration.” A third commented: “It’s clear she’s goofy around in that but leave it to you freaks to come up with something or comparing women.”
Royal Family Celebrates Catherine's Achievement
The royals celebrated the undertaking, with the monarchy’s official social media account posting: “Congratulations to The Princess of Wales.” The princess's trek raised funds for the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, a cause close to her family.
