Meghan Markle is set to appear in a special episode of MasterChef Australia, but a body language expert suggests her attempt to position herself as a culinary authority may be backfiring.
The Duchess has increasingly focused on food and lifestyle content, launching her own brand As Ever in 2025 and starring in the Netflix series With Love, Meghan. In a promo for the show, she said: "Food and cooking to me is really a love language."
Body language signals
Body language expert Judi James analysed Meghan's appearance in the promotional clips. "Meghan's determined and assertive entrance on a promo clip, plus her 'chef chic' styling and gesticulations during the newer clips, suggest she's taking her judging role on MasterChef very seriously, and wanting to position herself as an expert despite having no actual chef experience," James said.
"There were no self-deprecating signals on display here: in her simple black shirt with the open neck she appeared to imply she is the royal version of Marco-Pierre White or Gordon Ramsay."
Lack of credentials
Unlike Ramsay, Meghan has no formal chef training or industry credibility. James noted her hand gestures: "Meghan claps her hands together in a motivational gesture beloved of chefs like Gordon Ramsay and, like Ramsay, we can see the raised brows to look assertive. There is some upward pointing which is another authoritative gesture and a chopping ritual to show firmness."
Her Netflix series has not been renewed for a third season, and reports indicate dwindling traffic and sales for her As Ever brand, suggesting limited public interest in her culinary persona.
