Duchess of Sussex Anxious About Public Reaction
Meghan Markle reportedly fears how she will be received in the UK during her upcoming visit, according to a royal expert. The Duchess of Sussex, 44, is expected to accompany her husband, Prince Harry, to Britain this week for the first time since 2022. While security concerns have often been cited as the reason for her absence, sources suggest she is also worried about her popularity among the British public.
Royal expert Duncan Larcombe told New Magazine: “They'll put on a brave face and won't let their fears show, but there's no doubt they'll be secretly anxious about how things are going to go. Meghan hasn't been here for a long time and, if anything, many people's feelings towards her have only grown stronger during that time, so it's bound to be a concern. But Meghan is very good at appearing calm and confident on the outside, regardless of how she might be feeling.”
Last UK Visit Was for Queen Elizabeth II's Funeral
Meghan was last in the UK in September 2022 to attend the funeral of the late Queen Elizabeth II. Since then, Harry has returned to Britain multiple times, but his wife and children have remained in the United States. The couple quit royal life and moved to America in 2020, where they have built a new life and career.
It is believed that Harry and Meghan will bring their two children, Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five, on this trip. The family is reportedly planning to stay at a royal residence during their visit.
Security and Public Sentiment
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have not been in the UK together since 2022, and this visit marks a significant moment for the family. While security arrangements have been a longstanding concern, the public's perception of Meghan remains a key issue. Despite the anxiety, Larcombe noted that Meghan is skilled at maintaining a composed exterior, which she is likely to display during the visit.
