Meghan Markle displayed a “deep desire” to return to television when she appeared as a guest judge on MasterChef Australia, according to body language expert Judi James. The Duchess of Sussex surprised contestants when she entered the set during an episode filmed months ago during a trip to Australia with Prince Harry.
Body language reveals 'deep desire' for studio life
In behind-the-scenes footage shared by the show, Meghan is seen preparing to walk onto the set while contestants cheer. Judi James told the Daily Express that Meghan's pre-entrance rituals indicated eagerness rather than nerves. “Waiting for her cue to make her big entrance, Meghan displays mixed emotions, although the overriding one signalled by her body language is a very deep desire to get in there and in front of the studio cameras again,” James said.
James compared Meghan to an Olympic sprinter: “We can see this from her prepping rituals and the way she is so hot out of the traps once she gets her cue, shooting forward like an Olympic sprinter.” She noted that Meghan performed body-rocking rituals before walking, a technique to maintain momentum.
Self-soothing and control gestures
The expert also observed self-soothing and control gestures. “The thumb-rubbing is the self-soothing, but the way she smooths her skirt with her hands is the one that signals calm control here,” James explained. She added that Meghan's stride was determined, suggesting she was “pretty keen to get back under the studio lights again as a performer as well as a duchess.”
Mixed reactions to appearance
Meghan’s appearance on the show has drawn mixed opinions since it aired. However, fellow judges and participants praised working with her. Meghan is believed to have been on set for just one day.
