Meghan Markle is reportedly feeling 'terrified' ahead of her visit to the UK next week, according to an insider who spoke to the Examiner. The 44-year-old Duchess of Sussex is travelling with Prince Harry and their children, Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five, primarily to attend the one-year countdown event for the 2027 Invictus Games.
Meghan's distrust of the palace
The insider revealed Meghan's deep-seated mistrust of the royal household. '[Meghan] doesn't trust the palace one bit. In her mind, they've spent years spreading poisonous rumors about her, so she's finding it very hard to believe anyone's suddenly had a change of heart,' the source told the Examiner.
The insider added that Meghan is 'suspicious' of courtiers, stating: 'She's just as suspicious of the courtiers. She says she knows plenty of them are on the warpath against her and Harry, just waiting for William to become king, so they'll finally lose their status.'
Fear of a trap
Despite her concerns, Meghan is trying to be strong for Harry. 'Meghan's trying to be strong because she knows how much this trip means to Harry. But she's admitted that she's terrified they're walking into a trap,' the insider said.
The couple may also spend time with King Charles, who is reportedly eager to reunite with his two youngest grandchildren. The insider noted: '[Harry] keeps telling her she's expecting the worst and insists his father genuinely wants to see them, but that's not doing a whole lot to ease her fears.'
Royal residence offer
King Charles has reportedly offered the Sussexes a royal residence to stay in during their visit. It is unknown whether they have accepted the offer. The trip marks a significant moment for the family, as it will be their first joint UK visit in several years.
