Meghan Markle is apparently upset that she did not appear in public with Harry in the UK, but she cannot have it both ways, according to Express reporter Adam Toms.
Security ruling explained
A court judgement regarding Prince Harry’s request for security detailed RAVEC’s justification for dropping his taxpayer funded security. Protection was provided by specialist police officers who if the situation arose were to put themselves in harm’s way to protect the duke and his wife, "in the public interest and the interests of the State", the document stated. This could only be justified when the public interest requires it, because taxpayers had provided money for it, officials explained.
They went further, and claimed that public confidence in the Metropolitan Police Service and RAVEC "may be undermined if it were believed that a wealthy individual could pay to receive protective security measures that they would not receive if they were less wealthy".
Harry's private security
Harry recently visited the UK without his taxpayer-funded security. He clearly feared that he might be attacked, so he paid for his own private protection instead. The duke was also reportedly worried about the security of his wife and children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. They therefore came with him, but did not appear with him in public, instead meeting the King and Queen in secret at Highgrove.
Now, it is believed that Harry will continue to fight for taxpayer security, and Meghan is sad that she did not appear with her husband for everyone to see.
Half in, half out
As RAVEC explained, it is no longer in the State’s interest to provide protection for them, paid for by us. They do not act for us anymore, despite their taking part in a recent quasi-royal tour of Australia. If you want a private life in another country, go and do that. If you want to come back and become working members of the Firm, ask the King if you can do so. As the late Queen said several years ago, you cannot be half in and half out.
