Meghan Markle has sparked a wave of similar complaints after a promotional image for her lifestyle brand was perceived as a "royal blunder." The Duchess of Sussex's As Ever brand shared a photo on Instagram to announce the launch of "The Holiday Collection: Chapter One" on October 6, but viewers quickly noticed a detail that many found unconvincing.
The image, captioned "The season of giving is almost here, and we have a few surprises in store," appeared to show Meghan at a stove with no visible flame beneath the pot. The temperature controls on the hob also appeared to be switched off, prompting a flurry of comment when the image was reposted on X.
Social media reacts to the kitchen scene
One social media user highlighted the alleged gaffe, writing: "If you're going to pretend as if you're cooking on a gas range, do at least two smart things. One - make sure it's actually turned on, the knobs aren't even turned. Two, at least make it look like there's flames coming out underneath that pan. Tell us you don't cook without telling us you don't cook."
Others echoed the sentiment with remarks such as "All smoke and mirrors" and "Uhhh does Meghan Markle know to turn the stove on before cooking?" Another commented: "Have no words, besides absolutely hilarious," while a fourth said: "It's like NO ONE knows what they're doing. It's absurd." One user added: "She's making Pretend Stew."
Some viewers offer a more forgiving take
Not all reactions were critical. One observer suggested: "That woman was just pretending to cook for a photoshoot." Another noted: "Meghan's kitchen looks absolutely stunning and her Advent Calendar just sold out." A third offered an alternative explanation: "How daft. The heat can be turned off because the food is cooked through and needs occasional stirring before serving."
According to reports, the "Holiday Collection" will include a hostess hamper and a set of As Ever playing cards, following the recent launch of a luxury advent calendar priced at approximately £112. The range will also feature three chocolate bars in Ginger Lemon, Lavender Honey and Hibiscus Rose flavours.
Brand unveils collection with festive tagline
As Ever will officially unveil "The Holiday Collection: Chapter One" on October 6, promoted with the tagline "Merriment in the Making." The brand said: "The holidays have a way of reminding us how much joy can be found in the moments that make up a life. They invite us to gather a little closer, to make things with our hands, to set the table with care, and to give generously to the people we love."
