The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are reportedly planning a return to the UK, but Meghan Markle may face a devastating setback. The couple met with King Charles and Queen Camilla earlier this month, and reports suggest they may want to return permanently. However, it may not be straightforward for Meghan, 44.
Expert Says No Path for Meghan
The Nerve host Maureen Callahan told Sky News Australia host Danica De Giorgio: "The reporting out of King Charles' office has always been, there could be a way back for Harry. But it would be without Meghan." She added: "I find it really hard to believe that Meghan would consider living in the UK, even part time. She is so loathed there, and she knows it."
Approval Ratings and Family Rifts
Callahan said the couple's approval ratings are "in the toilet" and contrasted them with the popularity of Prince William and Princess Catherine, adding that William wants nothing to do with his brother. She said: "Harry cannot be happy. He lives in Montecito away from the urban hub of Los Angeles, he doesn't really have a job, he doesn't really have an infrastructure of a social life and friends."
"Every Hollywood heavyweight who has attempted to help the Sussexes has thoroughly been put off by them. They are in a lonely place of their own making," she continued.
Criticism of Past Actions
Danica agreed, saying Meghan is "absolutely despised" in the UK and that the couple have "done it to themselves." She said: "They have chosen this lifestyle, it's clearly not working for them and now they think they can weasel their way back."
Callahan slammed the Sussexes, declaring: "You cannot plead privacy when you publish a bestselling memoir in which you divulge all manner of your family's intimate secrets. The gloves are off when you sit for a Netflix documentary in which you depict yourself as the most hounded couple of the modern age, and in which Meghan mocked the late Queen with that courtesy and compared the British Royal Family to the American theme park franchise known as Medieval Times." She added: "Karma is coming around for both of them."
