Meghan Markle is set to appear as a guest judge on MasterChef Australia this Sunday, July 26, at 7pm local time on Channel 10 Australia. The episode, filmed in April during the Duchess of Sussex's visit to Australia with Prince Harry, will focus on seasonal produce and personal stories. Contestants will be asked to prepare a 'dish fit for a duchess' from Meghan's personal selection of produce and pantry items.
Ingredients and Judges
The ingredients available include carrots, Jerusalem artichokes, Brussels sprouts, celeriac, Australian honey, macadamia nuts, quince, lemons, apples, mandarins, and strawberries. Meghan will appear alongside MasterChef Australia judges Poh Ling Yeow, Sofia Levin, and Jean-Christophe Novelli.
Fan Backlash on Social Media
However, some fans were not impressed with Meghan's upcoming appearance and took to social media to express their views. One user on X said: 'She couldn't hack it as a duchess and had to run away because she is a quitter. Now she thinks she can just crawl back.' Another wrote: 'So there are plenty of European duchesses to choose from. But Meg is devoid of any class to think she is a Duchess as only by marriage & not by upbringing!'
Another user blasted: 'That's not hard at all for the Duchess of ScamJam. A ton of her flower sprinkles in a plate of cut fruit will be the winner.' A fourth asked: 'Were they able to find a Duchess to serve it to?' A fifth commented: 'She doesn't know how to act like a duchess as she never stayed in the Uk long enough to learn and become one.'
A sixth noted: 'Mmmmm, may I suggest a big humble pie!' Another said: 'She's not a true Royal Duchess so judging by her runny jam and flower toppings, she wouldn't have a clue re top drawer cuisine.'
Meghan's Comments in Teaser
In the new teaser, Meghan can be heard saying: 'There is a lot of pressure in that kitchen. I don't like to cook that way, I like to cook in a really relaxed fashion. All I can say to the competitors was to just remember to have fun, to keep a sense of humour about it, and to cook from the heart.' She also said that cooking and food are 'how I show my nurturing and love for my friends, family and my kids.'
