Meghan Markle and Prince Harry reportedly have a fondness for Portugal, not solely because of its sunny weather but because their children can experience a normal childhood there. A source told PEOPLE magazine that the couple 'love Portugal because Archie and Lilibet can simply be kids.'
Low-Key Family Holidays
The source added that visits are 'always very low-key with beach days, playing and spending time together as a family,' emphasizing that having normal family time is 'really important' to them. On July 23, Meghan shared a photo carousel on Instagram offering a behind-the-scenes look at the couple and their two children, Archie and Lilibet, enjoying their summer holidays. Part of that break is understood to have been in Portugal.
Summer Trip to Europe
The family, who reside in California, are thought to have visited Portugal during their trip to Europe this summer. They also visited Britain, where Prince Harry reunited with his father King Charles in a low-key meeting attended by the Sussexes, the monarch, and Queen Camilla. This meeting was significant given the family tensions since Harry and Meghan stepped down as senior working royals in 2020. It marked the first time the King had seen Archie and Lilibet, aged seven and five respectively, in four years. Buckingham Palace indicated the Sussexes were hosted at Highgrove House, the King and Queen's private residence near Tetbury in Gloucestershire.
The Sussexes are also thought to have visited Althorp, Northamptonshire, the childhood home of Prince Harry's mother, Princess Diana, who died in 1997 and is buried on the estate. A picture shared in the Instagram post appeared to show Harry and Archie carrying flowers as they walked through the estate with Lilibet.
