Megan McKenna shares Simon Cowell's call after label closure

Megan McKenna has opened up about a surprising phone call from Simon Cowell after her record label closed down following her X Factor: Celebrity win in 2019. The 32-year-old singer and cookbook author, who rose to fame on reality TV shows, said Cowell personally rang her to break the news.

Describing the call as 'crazy', McKenna told OK! magazine: 'It's not every day Simon Cowell rings you. He said, “I’m sorry, but you need to find a new home.”' The label shutdown made it tough for her to continue her music career, but she remains optimistic about returning to the scene now that her son Landon, aged nine months, is a little older.

Motherhood has given McKenna a new sense of freedom and confidence. She said: 'I don’t worry about the little things any more. As a mum, you have the most amazing gift already, so everything else is fine.' She recently performed live in London for the first time since becoming a mother, singing alongside Grammy-winning songwriter Toby Gad at The Shard.

McKenna, who married footballer Oliver Burke in June, also reflected on her success as a cook. Her cookbook became a Sunday Times bestseller, and she enjoys filming recipes for her millions of fans online. 'I love cooking, I love singing, I love Landon and I love Ollie. That’s all I need, really,' she added.
