Love Island host Maya Jama has hit back at social media users who accused her of having 'Turkey teeth', clarifying that she has simply had braces fitted. The 30-year-old presenter was responding to comments on X after the first episode of Love Island: All Stars aired, with one user writing: 'Ahhh Maya what have you done with your teeth?' and another saying: 'Maya got Turkey teeth - I loveeeeeeed her old teeth so much.'
Jama quickly set the record straight, replying: 'Girl I have not got Turkey teeth l've got braces (behind my teeth on the top and outside on the bottom) I wasn't mad at my lil crook but can never please em all, last season I was getting messages about them being bent.' The discussion prompted a flurry of reactions, with some fans supportive and one asking: 'What the hell is turkey teeth? Nothing wrong with your teeth.'
Jama had lingual braces fitted ahead of the new series – a type of fixed brace placed behind the teeth, making them invisible when smiling. The treatment, which began in October 2025 at Chelsea Dental clinic, typically costs around £6,000 and takes 12 to 18 months. Dr Annika Patel, who oversaw the treatment, explained: 'Lingual braces are popular with public-facing individuals who want effective orthodontic treatment without visible braces.'
Despite the online chatter, Jama said she had liked her natural smile, adding: 'You can't please everyone.' In a separate incident, she recently appealed to Elon Musk's AI chatbot Grok to stop altering her images, after deepfake bikini photos circulated. She wrote: 'The internet is scary and only getting worse.'
