Maya Jama has dismissed speculation that she has rekindled her romance with former boyfriend Stormzy, insisting the pair are “just friends”, as she prepares to join the cast of Celebrity Traitors on BBC One.
The TV and radio presenter, 32, is expected to make a significant impact when she appears alongside host Claudia Winkleman and other celebrities at Ardross Castle, the 19th-century Scottish estate that has hosted The Traitors and its celebrity spin-off since 2022.
Rumours sparked by Instagram clip
The speculation began after the former couple refollowed each other on Instagram and Maya shared a clip of herself singing along to one of the rapper's tracks. However, the Love Island host has moved to quash the rumours.
After a fan posted the clip on X, Maya responded: “I like the song. We have always been friends. No one is back together, rest with the theories.” The post quickly went viral, amassing more than 1.7 million views.
History of the relationship
Maya and Stormzy, real name Michael Omari Owuo Jr, first started dating in 2014 after meeting at a Red Bull Culture Clash event, and officially dated from early 2015 until their widely-publicised split in August 2019. They later attempted a reconciliation in August 2023 before confirming their final breakup.
In a joint statement, they said: “We tried, and it didn't work, and that's okay. We've been laughing whilst drafting this because we never, ever, in a million years thought we'd be the couple announcing a breakup.”
They added: “We decided to try for the final time in August 2023, and we've spent this past year trying our best to make it work; however, we recently decided to call it quits.”
Life after the split
Following their final breakup, Maya briefly dated Manchester City footballer Rúben Dias, 29, before they parted ways in May 2026. The couple reportedly separated because their romance had “run its course” due to demanding work schedules.
Beyond reality TV, Maya has also earned praise for her role as Aisha, a glamorous criminal fixer, in the second series of Guy Ritchie's Netflix drama The Gentlemen.
The Celebrity Traitors airs from 8pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
