Matt Damon has shared his thoughts on the antics of Scottish football fans in his hometown of Boston. The movie star appeared on Late Night with Seth Meyers over the weekend where he spoke about attending the World Cup final with his Argentinian wife, Luciana.
The actor is currently doing press for Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, a cinematic recreation of the epic poem in which Matt plays Odysseus. As well as chatting film, Damon also praised Scotland football fans as he shared his 'favourite' story from the World Cup.
Damon's favourite World Cup story
Despite their team winning, it turns out his favourite moment from the tournament was actually the Scotland fans' celebrations in Boston after they left a long lasting impression on the US city. He even went as far to say 'you guys are just like us'.
Speaking on the chat show, the Good Will Hunting actor said: 'The Scottish fans in Boston. That was one my favourite stories of the World Cup.'
Damon shared: 'I heard a story there was a bunch of Scots outside a liquor store and a woman walked in and bought a bottle of water and they booed her. It was epic.'
'I heard we instantly declared ourselves sister cities with one of the cities in Scotland. It was like we just knew. It was like "Oh yeah you guys are just like us."'
Scottish links to The Odyssey
That's not Damon's only recent link to Scotland as parts of The Odyssey were also filmed right here on the country's coast. Locations include Culbin forest in Moray and Findlater Castle in Aberdeenshire.
Christopher Nolan's latest star studded film features Damon in the leading role of the Greek King of Ithaca named Odysseus. The rest of the cast includes Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Travis Scott, Zendaya, Robert Pattison and many more.
Damon was in Scotland last summer while filming for The Odyssey which was released globally in cinemas last week. The Good Will Hunting actor and Tom Holland were spotted in Burghead in Moray. From Burghead, Holland and Damon travelled in small boats to nearby Culbin Forest where a car park was closed due to filming for several days.

A clip of Damon praising the Scots was shared to Tiktok with many left delighted by his remark. One replied: 'Matt Damon is welcome in Scotland any time.' Another added: 'Yup that water story definitely happened. Very Scottish.' A third commented: 'If Matt Damon likes us I'm very happy, love from the Country of Scotland.'
