Matt Damon has described the Scottish football fans who took over Boston during the 2026 Fifa World Cup as 'epic'. The 55-year-old Oscar-winner said it was 'so awesome' to hear stories about the Tartan Army as they gathered in the Massachusetts city ahead of Scotland's match against Morocco.

Appearing on Late Night With Seth Meyers, Damon spoke fondly of the Scottish fans, who made headlines for their behaviour, generosity and patter. He shared an anecdote: 'I heard a story that there was a bunch of Scots outside a liquor store, and a woman walked in and bought a bottle of water and they booed her. It was epic.'
Damon, who grew up in Massachusetts, added: 'I heard that we instantly declared ourselves a sister city with one of the cities in Scotland. We just knew – “oh yeah, you guys are just like us.”'
Scotland's World Cup campaign
Scotland qualified for their first World Cup in 28 years, with fans travelling to the US, Canada and Mexico. However, the team was eliminated early after Croatia beat Ghana 2-1 at the end of the group stage.

Damon, married to Argentinian film producer Luciana Barroso, also celebrated Argentina's semi-final win over England. He joked: 'We scared the shit out of our dogs. Our dogs were hiding, they didn't know what was happening – it was a pretty rambunctious household.'
The actor also teased his co-star Tom Holland and director Sir Christopher Nolan, both British, about England's defeat. 'A lot of folks (are) not talking to me today,' he said. Damon praised Harry Kane's team, noting they reached the semi-finals twice.
Damon and his wife attended the World Cup final, where Spain beat Argentina 1-0 in extra time.
