Matt Baker has announced the arrival of a new family member on his Durham farm in the Chiltern Hills. The former Blue Peter presenter, 48, and his wife Nicola own a small farm where they keep livestock, including chickens and sheep. The couple and their two children document farm life on their Channel 4 show Our Farm in the Dales.
Last year, Baker announced the death of his beloved Border Collie, Bob. Now, 12 months on, he has opened his Hertfordshire home to another furry friend who will feature in his new BBC show later this year.
Introducing Ted
Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk after his campaign with Warburtons, Baker introduced fans to his four-legged friend. He said: "Ted is very good, he's doing well, and he's settling in."
"We're doing some light obedience training at the moment, but he's not doing a huge amount at this stage because you've got to let them be puppies. Ivy, our little miniature Dachshund, she's sort of helping to rear him if you like, and the pair of them are getting on like a house on fire, so it's all going as swimmingly as I'd hope it would do."
He added: "He's a beautiful boy with a lovely nature. I've no doubt he'll be a great sheepdog. That's what his future holds, as well as doubling up as a household dog."
New BBC Show
Baker is preparing to return to the BBC with a brand-new show, Matt Baker: Life With Dogs. It will explore the many roles dogs play for humans, from working farm dogs and therapy dogs to assistance and service dogs with police and military. The BBC Two daytime series is expected to air later this year.
Ted will make his TV debut on the show. Baker teased: "He will crop up [in the new show]. We've filmed the majority of it already, but he will crop up."
Remembering Bob
Baker previously opened up about the loss of Bob, who died in 2025. He told The Radio Times: "He'd been with me for the major moments in my life, so it was tough when he wasn't. We're fortunate to have these animals in our lives. Every single one has taught me something, and I'm grateful. Grief is the price you pay for love."
Baker only announced Bob's death in May of this year, as he had been too "incredibly sad" to share the news at the time.
