Mats Grotenbreg, the Dutch Bachelorette star and amateur footballer who famously scored the winning goal against Ajax in the KNVB Cup, has died aged 28 following a collision with a boat while swimming in the Netherlands. The incident occurred on Thursday at the Mookerplas on the Kromvenpad in Middelaar, Limburg. Police confirmed a swimmer died after colliding with a vessel and a suspect was taken into custody.
Details of the Accident
Police declined to disclose further details about the circumstances or confirm the victim's identity. However, his football coach at club Jonge Kracht told newspaper De Gelderlander it was Mats. "This is incomprehensible," the coach said. "Mats was a great guy, always cheerful and enjoying life." Teammate Giovanni Büttner also shared the heartbreaking news on Instagram: "No words for it. Played together for six years and received the phone call with the terrible news."

Grotenbreg gained international recognition after netting the winning goal against Ajax in the KNVB Cup while playing for USV Hercules two and a half years ago. The strike came in the 92nd minute, securing a 3-2 victory and creating the biggest cup upset in Dutch football history.
