Masked Couple Climbs Empire State, Unfurls Banner, Engages

A masked couple climbed the radio and television transmission tower atop the Empire State Building in New York City on Wednesday afternoon, unfurling a cryptic banner before the man appeared to propose to the woman. The stunt, which drew police and cleared the observation deck, took place around 12:35 p.m. local time.

Daring Ascent and Banner Display

The pair, a man and a woman both wearing masks, were seen scaling the broadcast aerial on the iconic skyscraper. They reached the top of the antenna, 443 meters (1,454 feet) above the streets of Manhattan, and unfurled a massive banner that read: “When the power of love beats the love of power the world knows peace,” according to CBS News.

Proposal on a Lower Platform

After their ascent, the couple began climbing back down. Once they reached a lower platform, the man dropped to one knee and appeared to propose to the woman. The pair embraced, and the woman removed her mask as they shared a kiss.
