Katherine Short, the 42-year-old daughter of actor and comedian Martin Short, died on Monday at her home in the Hollywood Hills. The cause was an apparent suicide, according to law enforcement sources.
A representative for Martin Short confirmed the death in a statement, saying: 'It is with profound grief that we confirm the passing of Katherine Hartley Short. The Short family is devastated by this loss and asks for privacy at this time.'
Katherine, a licensed clinical social worker, earned a bachelor's degree from New York University and a master's from the University of Southern California. She worked in private practice and also part-time at a clinic, providing community outreach and psychotherapy.
She was adopted by Martin Short and his late wife Nancy Dolman, along with her two younger brothers Henry and Oliver. Dolman died of ovarian cancer in 2010. Martin Short is currently on a comedy tour with Steve Martin.
